How Our Mobile Storage Works

What happens to your stuff when you’re moving to a smaller house, and you don’t want to get rid of it all? Or maybe you’re going overseas for a while, and you want your stuff to be still waiting when you get back. It makes sense that you’d be attached to some of your property.

If you’re downsizing, you may have had that property for a long time, and have a lot of memories attached to it. And if you’re travelling, you’ll already have to buy a whole new set of furniture, household items, and appliances at your new house. When you get back home, it’ll be nice to have the comfort of familiar things.

Of course, the items you put in storage will vary. You could choose to keep a bed and electronics, or you may just want to retain personal items like receipts and photo albums. Ordinarily, you could put all your items in a storage locker and leave it there, but we have a better suggestion. Just order a Shuttlebox mobile storage unit.

The advantage we have over typical storage units is that we’ll bring your storage locker to you. We’ll use a ute or van to drive it to your house, leave you with it for up to 24 hours, then come back, pick it up, and take it to the storage centre. You don’t have to worry about bulk or transport costs because we’ll take care of all that.

The reason we leave the Shuttlebox with you is so that you can pack in your own time. If you need packaging materials, we’ll provide them for you. You might be unsure about the number of cardboard boxes that you need. In that case, you can use the handy calculator on our website, and it will help you estimate the number of boxes you need.

In addition to cardboard boxes, we supply bubble wrap, packing tape, butcher paper, and mattress covers. We also have furniture felt to secure your seats and tables. Our packing materials come with tools like blades and markers. You can rent trolleys if you need them.

As for the number of Shuttleboxes you need, one box can hold 1.2 tonnes of property, which roughly translates into the contents of one and a half furnished rooms. The dimensions of a Shuttlebox are 2.4 x 2.4 x 1.8 metres, and the capacity is 10 cubic feet.

You might worry that this is too heavy for safe storage, but our boxes are made of strong, stackable wood. Wood works better than metal because it’s an organic, breathable material. It will allow air circulation and won’t gather condensation, so your items won’t get damp, mouldy, or smelly. Each box has its own lock, and you can keep the key.

We have locks available, but you can also buy your own padlock. Inside the warehouse, boxes are neatly organised and ordered so you can retrieve yours at any time. Just give us a call 24 hours in advance so that we can take your box out of the stack and have it ready for you.

Some people have a hard time packing, and we offer that service as well. We can do all the packing for you, and place everything in well-labelled containers. And if you’re going to have your stuff in storage for an extended period, you might be worried about weather conditions and pests. Before we stack the palette, we wrap it in waterproof packaging.

This waterproofing is backed up by stacking the Shuttleboxes on an elevated platform to protect them from potential flooding. The warehouse is well lit, has 24 hour CCTV, is well ventilated, and is safe from pests and rodents. Your packages are secure with us, whether you’re stashing them for a few weeks or even a few months.

Shuttlebox portable lockers cost nearly half the price of traditional storage systems, and we don’t charge extra for drop-off and pick-up. We can afford to give such good deals because stacking the Shuttleboxes dramatically cuts costs. If you’re moving to a new location, we can hold onto the box for you then transport it to your new place once you get there.
